The Dhaka Inter-Division Boxing competition inaugurated on Sunday at Muhammad Ali Boxing Stadium in the city.
FM Iqbal Bin Anwar, chief of games and welfare division of Walton, its additional director (service management system) Niamul Haque, Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation (BABF) vice-president Sultan Uddin Ahmad, BARF general secretary MA Quddus Khan were present, among others, in the
inauguration ceremony.
The competition is being held in 12 weight categories- seven of men’s division and five of women’s division. The men’s categories are 25-29, 35, 42, 48, 51 and 54 kgs while the women’s categories are 32-36, 40, 54, 50 and 55 kgs. All the participating boxers are between 12 to 16 years of age.
Some hundred associations from all 64 districts across the country are taking part in the two-day meet, orgainsed by Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation (BABF).
From this competition, 24 boxers for 12 weight categories from 13 districts under Dhaka division will be selected for the selection round of national boxing competition. Some 192 boxers from grassroots level are expected to take part in the national boxing meet.
