A court here on Monday issued arrest warrant against sacked minister Abdul Latif Siddique for failing to respond to its summons in a case filed for hurting religious sentiment of Muslims with his derogatory remarks on Hajj. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty issued the warrant as the accused did not appear before the court as per its previous order. The court fixed November 27 for police report on the execution of the warrant of arrest. This is the second warrant of arrest order issued against Latif Siddique by a Dhaka court after his recent derogatory remarks about Hajj and Ijtema. Latif Siddique was summoned on October 2 by the same court taking into congnizance a petition filed by Olama League senior vice chairman Abu Bakkar Siddique. Following his remarks made on September 28 in New York, the ruling Awami League-led government sacked Latif Siddique from the cabinet on October 12. He was also removed from the Awami League Presidium and his primary membership in the party suspended. –UNB, Dhaka.
