Electioneering for Dhaka city corporation polls, to be held on February 1, has been ended on Thursday midnight in line with the electoral rules.
All candidates participating in the city polls, their supporters and followers are directed to stop their electioneering before midnight called just 12:00am, said Election Commission (EC) Director (Public Relations) Md Israil Hossain.
All the electioneering regarding the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls have been banned after midnight (12:am) as per the electoral
rules that mentions election campaigning must be stopped 32 hours before the starting of the voting process (casting votes), the EC Director said.
This time, the DNCC and the DSCC have 13 mayoral candidates and around seven hundred candidates against councillor posts for the polls slated for February 1.
DNCC has 1,318 polling centers for around 30.10 lakh voters. In DSCC, there are 1,150 polling centers for around 24.53 lakh voters.
They mayoral and councillor candidates had started their respective electioneering on January 10 following the allocation of election symbols.
The government has issued an 18-hour ban on plying of all kinds of vehicular from January 31 midnight to 6 pm on February 1 marking the Dhaka South and North City Corporation polls. Besides, motorcycles will not be allowed to run from Thursday (January 30) midnight till 6:00am on February 2, said an official handout yesterday.
