Dhaka Bar Assoc poll begins

Court Correspondent :The two-day election 2016-2017 of the Executive Committee of Dhaka Bar Association, the biggest bar of Asia has begun on Wednesday amidst enthusiasm.Of the total 15,050 voters of the bar, 3,205 cast their votes on Wednesday. Sixty-five candidates are vying for 27 posts of the Bar Association. Twenty-seven candidates are competing from the pro-BNP-Jamaat’s Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya’s Blue Panel, while another 27 lawyer candidates are in the race on behalf of the pro-Awami League, Sammilito Ainjibi Samonnoy Parishad’s White Panel. Advocates Md Khorshed Alam, Afroza Begum Shelly, Md Azizul Islam Khan Bachchu and Md Abu Bakkar Siddique are vying for the positions of President, Senior Vice President, General Secretary and Treasurer on behalf of the Blue Panel respectively, while Md Saidur Rahman Manik, Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Md Ayubur Rahman and Md Hasibur Rahman Didar are in the race for the same posts from the White Panel.Besides, ten more lawyers are competing from the Sabuj Panel of Bangladesh Shantir Ainjibi Parishad. Of them, Md Delwar Hosssain Mollick vies for the post of President, Sultan Ahmed Khan for General Secretary and Sohel Ahmed Bhuiyan competes for the post of Treasurer. Of the total 20,042 lawyers of the bar, 15,050 have been enrolled as voters for this year’s annual election. Md Shah Alam Advocate has been made Chief Election Commissioner to conduct the election.
