Dhaka Abahani Limited reached the semifinals of the KFC Independence Cup Football Tournament from Group B beating Sheikh Russel KC by 1-0 goal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
Forward Jewel Rana scored the match-winner for Dhaka Abahani Limited in the 72nd minute by a grounder after beating his marker, off a Camara Sarra pass from top of the box (1-0)
With the day’s feat, Dhaka Abahani finished Group B runners-up securing nine points to play the first semifinal against Group A champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on May 3 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Despite the day’s defeat, Sheikh Russel KC emerged Group B champions with 10 points to play the Group A runners-up Chittagong Abahani Limited in the 2nd semifinal on May 4 at the same venue.
In the day’s match, the Ethiopian forward of Sheikh Russel Fikru Teferra made his way into the defense of Abahani in the 26th minute, but defender Mamun Mia tackled situation.
In the 40 minute, Faisal Mahmud of Abahani made curved cross to Senegalese forward Camara Sarra but Russel goalie Rasel Mahmud Liton saved his castle brilliantly fisting the ball for a corner.
