Dhaka Abahani Limited blanked Uttar Baridhara Club by eight goals to nil in their second leg match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
By virtue of yesterday’s victory, Dhaka Abahani Limited have kept them in the runners-up race.
Abahani have taken the third position in the points table grabbing 46 points from 23 matches, while Uttar Baridhara Club have taken the 11th position earning 19 points from 24 matches.
Abahani led the first half 3-0.
The popular Dhanmondi-based outfit earned the penalty kick in the fourth minute of the play. Abahani’s Jewel Rana was roughly charged by Topu in the danger zone of Uttar Baridhara. Thus Abahani were awarded a penalty kick by the referee. Abahani’s Brazilian recruit Raphael put his team ahead by a spot-kick.
Abahani were awarded another penalty kick in the 33rd minute of the clash. Abahani’s Haitian recruit Belfort made it 2-0 by a spot-kick.
Abahani’s Nigerian recruit Sunday Chizoba increased the tally into 3-0 by a header using a flag-kick of his teammate Raphael in the 41st minute of the game.
After the intermission, Jewel Rana of Abahani made it 4-0 by a shot capitalizing a header of his teammate Belfort in the D-box in the 64th minute of the match.
Jewel Rana increased the tally into 5-0 in the 66th minute of the match.
Belfort scored his second goal in the 68th minute of the encounter.
Belfort fulfilled his hat-trick in the 75th minute of the game.
Belfort sealed the fate of the match (8-0) just at the dying moment.
It was biggest marginal win for a team in this year’s BPL Football.
Today a total of five matches of BPL Football will be held at the different venues of the city.
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will take on Bangladesh Police Football Club at Bangladesh Army Stadium at 2.00pm, while Rahmatganj MFS will face Arambagh Krira Sangha at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) at 4.00pm, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited will meet Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at Bangladesh Army Stadium at 4.15pm, Saif Sporting Club Limited will face Brothers Union at the BNS at 6.15pm, Chittagong Abahani Limited will take on Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra Limited at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur at 5.15pm.
