Dhaka Abahani Limited beat their arch rivals Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 4-2 goals in their prestigious match of the TVS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at Bhasha Sainik Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Wednesday.
Abahani took the second position in the points table bagging 35 points from 16 matches, while Dhaka Mohammedan took the sixth spot collecting 22 points from as many matches.
All the six matches were scored before the lemon-break.
Abahani’s Costarican recruit Daniel Colindres put his team ahead by a flag-kick in the 8th minute of the first half.
Abahani’s Brazilian recruit Dorielton doubled the margin by an accurate shot using a pass of his teammate Nurul Faisal in the 10th minute of the match.
Mohammedan’s foreign recruit Souleymane Diabate reduced the margin by a side volley using a cross of his teammate Mohammad Alamgir in the 19th minute of the game.
Abahani’s Emon Mahmud got the ball on his way after Daniels shot was fisted by Mohammedan goalie Sujon and Emon Mahmud made no mistake to put the ball into the net in the 43rd minute of the clash.
Shahriar Emon of Mohammedan made it 3-2 by a left-footer after dodging past an Abahani defender in the injury time of the first-half.
Dorielton increased the tally into 4-2 by a back header using a corner kick of his teammate Daniel Colindres in the injury time of the first half.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Police Football Club defeated Uttar Baridhara Club by 3-2 goals in the day’s other match at the Muktijoddha Smrity Stadium in Rajshahi.
Bangladesh Police took the seventh position grabbing 20 points from 16 matches, while Uttar Baridhara Club took the ninth position earning 13 points from as many outings.
Police’s Afghan forward scored two goals and his Brazilian teammate Danilo netted one.
Baridhara’s foreign recruits Yousuf and Cochnev scored one goal each.
