Dhaka Abahani Limited returned to the winning run in the Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier Football League beating Independence Cup finalist Soccer Club, Feni by 2-1 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
Abahani, which conceded a shocking 0-1 goal defeat against Brothers Union in the previous match, maintained their 2nd slot in the league table securing 22 points from 11 outings after Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, which bagged 27 points from same number of matches.
Feni Soccer Club, which forced Abahani Limited to play goalless draw in the first phase, bagged seven points from eleven matches and was placed 8th in the 10-team league.
Medio Jamal Hossain and substitute Towhidul Alam scored one each for the
sky-yellow popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani while Landing Darboe netted the lone goal for outsider Feni Soccer Club.
Midfielder Jamal Hossain put Dhaka Abahani ahead in the 22nd minute by a placing shot after beating Soccer Club goalie Nehal, capitalising a pass of the day’s play maker Awudu Ibrahim of Ghana (1-0).
Landing Darboe restored the parity for Feni Soccer Club in the 42nd minute by a brilliant free kick (1-1).
Substitute winger Towhidul Alam sealed the fate of the match in the 83rd minute scoring the 2nd goal for Abahani, also by a placing shot to empty net, utilising a right flank pass of Portuguese forward Soares (2-1).
Earlier, Mustapha missed a chance in the 38th minute when the Sierra Leon forward sent the ball over the bar from the edge of the six-yard box, following a low cross of Meshu.
Abahani goalie Shaidul Alam produced a lovely save in the 73rd minute to deny Mathew Mendy’s header.
