DGHS reports 36 more deaths from Covid-19, 1593 new cases

Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed 36 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 1,593 new cases of infection after testing 13,673 samples in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 4,859 and the number of total infections stood at 344,264, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the dead patients, 28 were men and eight were women. Moreover, 20 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, three from Barishal, two from Khulna and one each from Rangpur and Sylhet division.
Thirty-four of them have died in different hospitals and two at their respective residences. The gender breakdown of Covid-19’s victims shows that 77.96 percent or 3,788 of the total were men, and 22.04 percent or 1,071 were women.
While talking about district-wise fatalities, 2,369 hailed from Dhaka division, 1,018 from Chattogram, 412 from Khulna, 328 from Rajshahi, 229 from Rangpur, 218 from Sylhet, 180 from Barishal, and 102 from Mymensingh district. According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims, as of Thursday, the majority of patients that died – 2,448 or 50.38 percent – were aged sixty and above.
The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with, respectively, 1,320 and 630 people. The rest of the people are within the age group of 31-40 with 287 people, 21-30 with 112, 11-20 with 41 people and under ten with 21 people.
However, a total of 2,443 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 250,412.
Some 13,769 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 13,673 were tested in 94 labs across the country. So far 1,783,779 samples have been tested.
Around 72.74 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.41 percent have died.
The latest day’s infection rate was 11.65 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 19.30 percent.
Currently, 47,691 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,223 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 472,739 people have completed their quarantine course.
The authorities placed 331 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 17,185 after 60,955 left. As many as 20,619,146 hotline health services were given by trained and volunteer doctors via three designated numbers (16263, 333, and 10655) , including 50,301 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.
Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 355,897 people till date including 4,393 in the last 24 hours.
There are 14,275 general beds available in the country for Covid-19 treatment where 3,055 people are already admitted, and 11,220 beds are available for treatment.
Moreover, there are 547 ICU facilities in the country and 246 ICU beds are available for the treatment of novel coronavirus infected patients in the country.
There are 13,055 oxygen cylinders, 528 high-flow nasal cannula and 341 oxygen concentrator available across the country. The virus has killed 945,542 people globally and infected more than 30 million so far.
