Developing knowledge-based educated nation emphasised

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday urged all to play their respective roles to develop a knowledge-based educated nation.
She made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of Dhaka University (DU) ‘Law Clinic’.
DU Law Department, Bangladesh Legal Aid Service Trust (BLAST) and UK Aid organized the programme at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Hall at DU, said an official release.
The speaker urged the university authorities to take law faculty students to courts to see the legal proceedings on the spot to acquire practical knowledge along with academic lessons.
She said the students of law would have to acquire knowledge from the law clinic along with general education.
She suggested taking measures for law students to visit law clinic in universities abroad.
The speaker said the law students should not confine themselves to academic knowledge. Rather, they should give importance to issue-based law and knowledge, she added.
She stressed the need for further expanding facilities for law students.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin called upon the privileged section of society to work for the welfare underprivileged people.
DU Law Faculty Chairman Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan presided over the function while it was also addressed by DU Vice-Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Law Faculty Dean Dr Taslima Mansur, IGR Khan Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Professor Dr Rahmatullah and BLAST Executive Director Barrister Sara Hossain, among others.
