Developing knack for mathematics by students emphasized

Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University (KU) Prof Dr Fayequzzaman said that students should develop enthusiasm to study mathematics, early in life.
He said this while speaking at the 20th founding anniversary of the Mathematics Deaprtment and the 4th alumni conference as chief guest on Saturday at the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Academic Building of the university. “Life was crippled without mathematics. It was related to every sector of life as it was a fundamental subject,” he said.
He also emphasized practicing mathematics from the beginning of one’s life, adding children should be nurtured to be animated about mathematics so that it is studied systematically throughout life.
Terming the 20th anniversary of the department as a milestone of KU, he said “mathematics is necessary if our country is to progress.” Head of the Department of Mathematics Prof Dr Firoz Mahmud chaired the conference while treasurer of KU Prof Sadhan Ranjon Ghosh, Dean of SITE School Prof Dr Mahfuz ud Darain, director of student affairs’ Sharif Hasan Limon and president of the alumni association Prof Dr Monnuzahan Ara, addressed the meeting, among others.
Earlier, a colourful procession was brought out on the campus. Beside, a cultural programme was also held on the occasion.
