Developing human resources in banking sector stressed

Speakers at a workshop on Thursday underscored the need for taking more initiatives to ensure skilled human resource management in the banking industry.
“Efficient human resource management is one of the most essential requirements for survival in this competitive world which is very much crucial for the service industry like bank,” said Bangladesh Bank (BB) Deputy Governor Ahmed Jamal.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the workshop on “Human Resource Management of Banks” at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) auditorium in the city, said a press release.
BIBM Director General Dr Towfiq Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the workshop while former Professor of the Dhaka University Economic Department Dr Barkat-e-Khuda and BIBM Director (Training) Dr Shah M Ahsan Habib, among others, were present at the workshop.
Ahmed Jamal said banking industry is a labor intensive industry and efficiency of employees has got a bearing on the quality of services offered.
He said the central bank and the Finance Ministry have issued a number of circulars to ensure better human resource management in the banking sector of Bangladesh.
“The circulars are related with the rules regarding maintaining office hour, national integrity strategy (NIS), employees code of conduct, pension allowance of employees including festival bonus, appraisal of female employees during maternity leave, maternity leave and its duration, day care facilities for the children of the employees, and consistency of employee grading system,” he added.
