Dev of Karnaphuli navigability stressed

Improvement of the navigability of the Karnaphuli river emphasised in the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting .
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry on Tuesday recommended measures for maintaining the navigability of the River Karnaphuli by removing accumulated polythene on the river bed.
The committee made the recommendation to Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) at its 7th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee Chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair, Chattogram Port sources said.
The committee discussed the report of sustainable skill development of Chattogram Port which was placed by CPA. Senior officials of Chattogram Port and Shipping Ministry were present in the meeting.
CDA fines bldg owner for unauthorized construction
Chattogram Bureau: Special mobile court of Chattogram Development Authority fined a building owner at Kalpalok Residential area in the city with Tk.2 lakh and asked the owner to demolish the extended portion of the building beyond approved plan of CDA. Judge of special court Saiful Islam Chowdhury passed this order on Tuesday. Court sources said owner of KL Plot Shaheda Akhter constructed a building in plot No.B-112 defying the approved plan of the CDA . Following the inspection of the allegation by Building Inspector Saikat Paul lodged a case before the court under Building Construction Act 12(1) of 1952 . Court asked the owner to demolish the extended portion of the building within one month and fined Tk.2 lakh for disobeying the building act, sources said.
