BNP standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Wednesday morning from Kashimpur Jail as he fell sick. The BNP leader was admitted to the BSMMU’s coronary care unit around 8:30am after he complained of chest pain, BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told UNB. Mosharraf’s son Maruf Hossain said, “My dad has been taken to Dhaka as he suddenly felt chest pain in the morning.” On March 12, police arrested Mosharraf, also a former health minister, from his Gulshan residence in a case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission against him. On February 6, ACC director Nasim Anwar filed the case with Ramna Police Station on charge of siphoning off money. According to the case statement, Mosharraf Hossain laundered 8.04 lakh British pounds (equivalent to Tk 9.54 crore) to the United Kingdom when he was Health and Family Welfare Minister during the 2001-2006 tenure of the BNP government.– UNB, Dhaka.
