Tazreen tragedy: Depositions of witnesses deferred

A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) deferred recording the depositions of the witnesses in the cases filed against 13 people including Tazreen Fashions Managing Director (MD)
Delwar Hossain to November 1.
Judge Utpal Bhattacharje, Judge-in-Charge of the First Additional District Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday as the prosecution could not produce any witness to the court on the first date of the hearing.
The District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka framed charges against the accused on September 3 and fixed October 1 to begin the trial with recording the depositions of the witnesses.
The devastating fire of Tazreen Fashions factory at Nischintapur in Ashulia area on the outskirt of the capital killed 112 workers and injured over 200 others, mostly women on November 24, 2012.
The thirteen accused persons are: MD Delwar Hossain, his wife Mahmuda Akhter Mita, Factory Manager Abdur Razzak, Quality Manager Shahiduzzaman Dulal, Production Manager Mobarak Hossain Monju, Manager (Admn) Md Dulal Uddin, Engineer Mahbubul Morshed, Store-in-Charges Hamidul Islam and Md Al Amin, Security-in-Charges Al Amin and Anisur Rahman, Security Guard Md Rana and Loader Shamim Mia.
