Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday recorded the depositions of a neighbour of Jahangirnagar University’s slain student Zubair Ahmed in his murder case.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of Dhaka’s Fourth Speedy Trial Tribunal
recorded the depositions of Zubair’s neighbour Kamrul Islam and fixed June 12 to record the depositions of more witnesses.
The court so far recorded the depositions of 22 witnesses. After seven consecutive dates, the court recorded the depositions of witnesses Dr Sohel Rana of Savar’s Enam Medical College and Hospital and Mizanur Rahman on June 2. The prosecution could not produce anyone to testify on those seven days.
Zubair, an English Department student of the university, was beaten by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on January 8, 2012 and he succumbed to his injuries at United Hospital in the capital the following day.
A case was later filed with Ashulia Police Station in this connection. Police submitted the charge sheet of the case against 13 BCL men on April 8, 2012. On September 8 last year, the Speedy Trial Tribunal framed charge against the 13 accused of the murder case.
