Deposition in arms case against Shahed ends

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday completed recording the depositions of witnesses in the arms case filed against Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the court on Tuesday fixed today (Wednesday) to allow the accused to tell the court whether they are guilty in the case or not. Earlier, the court recorded the depositions of 11 prosecution witnesses, out of 14. Then the court fixed time, for the accused to support them in the court under Section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On Tuesday- Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury of Dhaka CMM Court and Investigation Officer of the case DB Inspector Shairul Islasm testified. Later, the defence lawyers cross-examined them.
Earlier on August 27, the court framed charges against the accused in the case and fixed September 10 to record the depositions of the witnesses.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira border area in the case filed on the charge of issuing fake Covid-19 test reports at his hospital. At that time he was trying to leave the country by a boat.
After his arrest, on July 18, DB Police raided Shahed’s Uttara office of the city and recovered illegal arms and narcotics from his car, which was earlier seized. On the following day, DB Police filed the arms case with Uttara West Police Station of the city.
