Denmark praises BD’s socio-economic uplift

Denmark on Thursday praised the present socio-economic development of Bangladesh and the government as well for successful hosting of the five-day 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly concluded here on Wednesday.
“I am highly impressed to see myself the remarkable socio-economic development made by Bangladesh since my first visit to Bangladesh a decade ago,” said the visiting Danish Development Cooperation Minister Ulla Tornaes.
She made the observation when she called on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the latter’s office here, a foreign ministry spokesperson said after the meeting.
During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interests, including mutual support to each other’s candidates in the international bodies.
The Danish minister informed Ali that the Danish Crown Princess Mary, who is now visiting Bangladesh, had made a field visit to Barisal to see herself the state of women empowerment in rural areas when she interacted with the rural women and girls.
Ali thanked the Danish people and government for unwavering support and assistance during and after the War of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
He recalled his visit to Denmark last September as part of four-country official Nordic tour and expressed satisfaction about the fruitful meeting held with his the [then] Danish counterpart.
The Danish minister expressed satisfaction at the ongoing transformation of bilateral relations from traditional development assistance to trade and investment partnerships and at the ever increasing bilateral trade relations between the two countries, which has doubled in the last few years.
The two ministers also discussed about Danish investments in Bangladesh, the spokesperson added.
