Three more patients, including a teenage girl and a local leader of the ruling Awami League, died of dengue in Dhaka, Chattogram and Barishal districts on Thursday.
In Dhaka, a woman infected with dengue died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The deceased identified as Panna Begum, 60, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s (DMCH) medicine care unit around 1:45pm.
Quoting the family, DMCH police outpost in-charge Bachchu Mia said: “Panna was admitted to DMCH with dengue complaint on Monday night.
She was already suffering from diabetes and hyper tension related issues.”
In Chattogram, Daw Mya Ching, 35, wife of Uhla Ching, hailing from Ruma in Bandarban, died in a private hospital in the port city on Thursday, our correspondent reports quoting doctors.
Daw was admitted to Centre for Specialised Care & Research (CSCR) with fever on September 10, said Dr Nahid Hassan, Resident Medical Officer of CSCR, adding, she was diagnosed with dengue in Bandarban and took treatment in a hospital in the district before admitted to CSCR.
She developed complications of dengue hemorrhagic syndrome on Wednesday and was shifted to ICU, said Dr Nahid adding that the patient died around 4:00am yesterday.
In Barishal, Suraiya Begum, 14, daughter of Badal Munshi from Padma village under Patharghata upazila of Barguna district died of dengue at about 7:00 AM on Thursday morning. Suriaya was a student of class VIII of Haritana Ideal School in the area and admitted to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital
at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, said Akhirunnesa, dengue ward-in-charge of the hospital, reports our Correspondent.
So far eight patients died at SBMCH since July 16.
Dr. Bakir Hossain, Director SBMCH, said that within last 32 hours, 19 patients were admitted and 33 released after treatment at this hospital.
From July 16, 2019 a total of 2178 patients were admitted, eight died and 2071 released after treatment and 99 still under treatment in that hospital.
A total of 750 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.
Till Thursday, 237 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 513 in districts outside Dhaka.
Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release said that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country are 3,029.
A total of 60 dengue patients died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 12, according to their own data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be more than 151 so far.
As many as 1,355 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,674 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
Since January 1 till September 12, a total of 79,367 patients have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 76,141 have been released from hospitals and clinics after treatment.
