Dengue fever claimed three more lives in Bangladesh with 192 more patients hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Monday morning.
With this, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease rose to 71 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, 66 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chittagong and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.
Among the new patients, 162 were undergoing hospital treatment in Dhaka while the remaining 30 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.
Some 922 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday morning.
Of them, 743 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 179 are listed outside Dhaka.
Some 18,936 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.
So far 17,943 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.
The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.
In September the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 22 deaths
In August 7,698 people were diagnosed with dengue while the highest 34 people died from it, said the DGHS.
Meanwhile, the number of people died of dengue has reached 71 since January as the health authorities on Monday reported three more dengue deaths.
Of the three deaths, two occurred in 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday and the rest one occurred in September but has remained unreported till Monday, said a Health Emergency Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services press release.
Dengue has so far claimed the lives of 71 people – 66 in the capital city, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi division – this year.
Of the total, 12 died in July, 34 died in August, 23 in September and two in October, official statistics showed.
In the 24 hours, 192 more dengue patients – 162 in Dhaka and 30 in other areas across the country – were hospitalised. The total number of the hospitalised dengue patients has reached 18,936 since January, according to official data.
Among the two people who died in the past 24 hours, one was aged below one year while the other was between 31 years and 40 years, said the DGHS release.
No death was reported between January and June.
Of the hospitalised patients since January, 16,208 or 85.59 per cent were in Dhaka.
In four days in October, 739 patients were hospitalised with dengue across the Bangladesh.
In September, the number of patients stood at 7,841, the highest dengue hospitalisation this year.
The number was 7,698 in August and 2,286 in July. The total number in January-June was 372.
On Monday, 922 dengue patients, including 743 in 46 government and private hospitals in the capital, were undergoing treatment in health facilities across the country.According to the release, 17,943 patients have recovered from the disease since January.
