Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel on Sunday said demand for forming ninth wage board for journalists is very much logical to ensure financial security for the newsmen.
“Media workers and journalists can play a major role in building a developed Bangladesh based on the heritage of War of Liberation. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman himself was into journalism. He enacted law for the welfare of the journalists.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina too has done many things for the journalists. Initiatives have been taken to form ninth wage board,” he said.
The minister came up with the observations while addressing a function at the Press Council of Bangladesh here for handing out financial assistance among journalists who suffered loss in recent flashflood across the country.
A total of 18 journalists received the assistance in the program organized by Bangladesh Journalist Rights Forum (BJRF) with the assistance from Sidney Press and Media Council and Bangladesh Press Council.
Justice Md. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council, presided over the function, while BJRF general secretary Ataur Rahman placed keynote. Advisory Editor of daily Bartaman and former general secretary of National Press Club Swapan Kumar Saha, former president of Dhaka Union of Journalists Kazi Rafik, Bangladesh Press Council secretary Shyamol Chandra Karmakar, Sidney Press and Media Council general secretary Mohammad Abdul Matin, journalist Ashraf Khan, Lion Goni Miah Babul, Galman Shafi and former public welfare secretary of DUJ Hemayet Hossain addressed the function, among others.
