Gazipur(Sadar) Correspondent :
Journalists of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Press Club formed a human chain on Thursday to protest the harassment and defamation case against Samakal’s Gazipur correspondent Ijaz Ahmed Milon and its editor Moazzem Hossain and publisher Abul Kalam Azad for reporting on various misdeeds including illegal assets and trade of Saiful, Joint Convener of Gazipur Metropolitan Juba League. Gazipur Sadar Upazila Press Club Treasurer Sheikh Ramzan Hasan Noor spoke on the occasion. Gazipur Sadar Upazila Press Club President MA Qasim, General Secretary Jasim Uddin, Organizing Secretary Arif Khan, Manik Mia, Aminul Islam, Ayub Khan Milon Sheikh and other journalists.
Speakers said that it is very reprehensible and worrying to accuse well-known editors and journalists in the case due to personal conflict. Such cases pose a threat to independent journalism and the freedom of the media and journalists. The case against journalist Ijaz Ahmed Milon and other journalists under the Digital Security Act for writing against Juba League leader Saiful’s illegal assets and trade of positions is highly repulsive. Although the issue of corruption has been proved in various misdeeds including illegal trade of Saiful’s assets and position, no one concerned has taken false action against the journalist. It was demanded that the false conspiracy case against the journalists be withdrawn immediately.
