Deaths, new cases set single day record

Bangladesh has recorded the highest Covid-19 daily death toll and new cases in the last 24 hours.
With 19 new deaths and 1,162 fresh cases, the country’s Covid-19 death toll has risen to 269 and the total number of confirmed virus cases surpassed the 17,000-mark on Wednesday.
Nineteen people — the highest number in 24 hours so far — have died with coronavirus infections since yesterday. Of the deceased, seven were female and the rest were male. A girl child, aged between zero to 10, has died from Covid-19 in the last 24-hours, said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, during a briefing yesterday.
Among other deceased, one was aged between 31 and 40 years, seven were aged between 51 and 60, five were aged between 61 and 70, and five were aged between 71 and 80.
Of them, thirteen were from Dhaka division, one from Narayanganj district, one from Munshiganj district, one from Khulna district, and three from Chittagong division.
She said the country’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 269.
Besides, 1162 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is also the highest in the span of 24 hours so far.
With this, the total number of infected has reached 17822.
A total of 7,900 samples were tested in 41 labs across the country since yesterday, Dr Nasima added.
Meanwhile, 214 Covid-19 patients have recovered around the country in the last 24 hours. The total recovery number stands at 3,361, the DGHS official said.
Among the deceased, seven were female, Dr Nasima said adding that one of them was a child, aged under 10. Of the others, one was 31-40 years old, seven between 51 and 60, five between 61 and 70, and the rest within 71-80 years old.
Twelve of the deceased were from Dhaka city, one from Narayanganj, one from Munshiganj, one from Pabna, one from Narail, two from Chattogram and one from Cumilla, the official revealed. A total of 150 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added. Nasima Sultana also said that 214 patients had recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of people who have made full recovery to 3,361.
She stated that Praava Health and Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in Dhaka and Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur were the three new testing facilities.
