Eleven bodies have been recovered and 19 people rescued from a well, which collapsed on Thursday during a rescue operation, in India’s Madhya Pradesh.
They were trying to pull out a boy after he fell into it around 9 pm on Thursday. Unfortunately, he also died.
News agency PTI cited the Indian state’s Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang as saying late on Friday that the boy’s body was the last one to be taken out from the well.
Sarang also said that the rescue operations have ended.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, announcing an ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees for each of victims’ families.
The parapet wall around the well, officials said on Friday, collapsed due to the weight of people engaged in the rescue operation. The well is around 50 feet deep with a water level of about 20 feet.
The incident took place at Ganj Basoda, about 50 kilometres from the Vidisha district headquarters.
