Forty-Seventh anniversary of death of former Speaker of erstwhile Provincial Assembly Abdul Hamid Chowdhury will be observed today.
To mark the day Holy Qurankhwani and Milad Mahfil have been arranged at Nagbari Jame Masjid at Tangail.
A memorial meeting has also been arranged at Nagbari Hasina Chowdhury High School. His grand children has requested all to pray to Almighty Allah for salvation of the departed soul.
A close associate of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Huq & late H. S. Suhrawardy, late Abdul Hamid Chowdhury was Deputy President of Bengal Legislative Council from 1939 to 1947 and Deputy High Commissioner of the then Pakistan at Kolkata from 1951 to 1953 and also was dean of the diplomatic corps there. He was Speaker of erstwhile Provincial Assembly from 1962 to 1968.
He was a distinguished alumni of Dhaka Collegiate School and Kolkata Presidency College. Former President late Justic Abu Sayeed Chowdhury was his only son.
