Thirteen patients have died at the Covid-19 units of Government Mohammad Ali Hospital and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura in 25 hours.
According to sources, seven patients died suffering from breathing difficulties at Specialised Government Mohammad Ali Hospital due to short supply of high-flow nasal cannulas.
The patients died between Thursday night and 9:00am on Friday. Ten patients with critical conditions are still undergoing treatment there. The sources at Mohammad Ali Hospital also said deaths are on the rise due to lack of high flow nasal cannulas.
“There are only two high flow nasal cannulas in the entire hospital. We have failed to save the lives of patients due to inadequate supply of oxygen,” said the authorities of Mohammad Ali Hospital.
With Covid-19 cases soaring in most of the districts likely because of the highly contagious Indian variant, experts fear that Bangladesh may face the worst outbreak of the deadly virus by the end of June.
