An agreement was signed at the Railways Ministry on Sunday for the construction of a new railway line from Madhukhali of Bangladesh Railway to Magura town via Kamarkhali.
The total cost of the project is Taka 1202 crore 49 lakh and the location of the project is between Faridpur and Magura districts, a railways ministry press release said here on Sunday.
The project will construct 19.90 kilometer (km) main line from Madhukhali to Magura town via Kamarkhali, the release added.
The project also includes the construction of 4.9 km loop line at Kamarkhali and Magura station yard and construction of two new stations (Kamarkhali and Magura).
It will also build 28 small bridges and culverts and connect Magura district with the existing railway network.
As a result, sub-regional communication system will be established through railways and rail link will be established with the capital (Dhaka) through the Padma Bridge under implementation with the southwestern part of the country.
At the signing ceremony, Railways Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan said balanced development is not possible without an integrated communication system of a country.
Once the railways were neglected, he said, adding that but the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made railways as a separate ministry in 2011 and the government has taken various steps to make the railways modern and up-to-date.
In continuation of that, this agreement has signed, he added.
The further said that the ongoing Padma Bridge Rail Link project, construction of separate Bangabandhu Railway Bridge over the Jamuna River, construction of a new railway line from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar which will be launched in 2022 and rail link at Mongla Port are now underway.
Like last year, the special trains will be launched for transporting mangoes, he informed on the occasion.
Project director Md Asadul Haque and contracting organization ‘CREC-CCCL JV’ Official Liu Xue Bing signed the agreement from their respective sides.
