Deal for rice export to Sri Lanka signed

Bangladesh yesterday signed a deal with Sri Lanka to export 25,000 metric tons of rice.
Sarwar Khan, director general of the directorate of food, and Nalin Fernando, chairman of Lanka Sathosa Ltd, put pen on the agreement paper on behalf of the respective governments.
Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, food secretary Mushfeka Ikfat and AMPMB Atapattu, director general of department of development finance under the ministry of finance and planning of Sri Lanka, witnessed the signing ceremony at the secretariat.
Bangladesh exports the rice to the South Asian nation at $ 450 per ton. Sri Lanka in August this year proposed to import rice from Bangladesh on Cost Insurance Freight (CIF) term.
Speaking on the occasion, Food Minister said the country has now a stock of nearly 12.5 lakh metric tons of rice in godown, nearly 2.5 lakh tons more compared to the same period of last year.
He said, Bangladesh is prepared to export nearly 1 lakh metric ton of rice.
