DCs must take steps to keep prices under control: Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said that the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) would have to take practical measures keep prices of essentials under control, not merely in Ramadan but also throughout the year.
The DCs have been told to form monitoring cells in respective districts to keep the prices of essential goods under control, he said, briefing the reporters after attending a joint session of Commerce Ministry and Industry Ministry with the DCs on the second day of their 3-day conference in the city.
Tofail said that, directives have been issued to the DC of Munshiganj to take necessary steps to build an industrial area in Baushia area of the district within next three years. He informed that the government has allotted 530 acres of land in Baushia and also made available necessary financial assistance to set up a separate ‘garment city’ there.
The Commerce Minister said the DCs have also been asked to be proactive so that the people can enjoy the fruits of development in the country.
The DCs have been advised to be extra vigilant to maintain a stable law and order situation in the country, he added.
