This year, the cattle markets have been operating in capital city Dhaka in an organized way. Due to strong resistance by two city corporations, Dhaka North and Dhaka South, the seasonal traders did not get chance to set up cattle market at any unauthorized spot.
Only selected and authorized cattle markets have got nod to run business under foolproof security arrangement. And the positive impact of this excellent decision is highly visible. Especially, the traffic jam due to roadside makeshift cattle markets is not noticeable now.
At the same time, it has also reduced crime rate in the city, such as extortion and cow lifting, following strong presence of law enforcement agencies in and outside the cattle markets.
In the previous years, the cattle markets were set up here and there defying the restriction of DCC authorities. The ruling party hoodlums getting patronization from party high-ups either took control of the markets or set up makeshift markets to made some quick bucks. The concerned circles have expressed satisfaction over the present situation and congratulated DCCs for arranging the cattle trade in an organized way. Meanwhile, the two city corporations have urged the citizens to slaughter their sacrificial animals in selected areas. There will be 595 designated spots in the city to sacrifice animals for the first time this year. The two city corporations have taken this measure to speed up the management of waste, blood and leftovers disposal after the slaughters.

The Dhaka South City Corporation area will have 324 spots while Dhaka North City Corporation area will have 271 spots, said the officials of the two city corporations.
“This year, the two DCCs have selected some places for slaughtering sacrificial animals. I request all not to slaughter their sacrificial animals here and there. It will easy for us to keep the capital city clean. The city dwellers will get benefit from it,” DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq said on Tuesday.
