The approval of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK), as well as the two city corporations should be taken before building any infrastructure in the capital, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam.
He made the decision on Sunday at a review meeting held on the activities undertaken to alleviate the waterlogging in the Dhaka North, Dhaka South and Chattogram City Corporations during the monsoon season at the Local Government Ministry.
However, the Minister said that the Mayors should be careful so that no one is harassed while seeking approval.
Apart from the establishments of personal houses and non-government organizations, the construction of all types of infrastructure including the government infrastructures will also come under the new approval process, mentioned the Minister.
He said that apart from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha, permission of the City Corporations has to be taken.
“It is not enough to give only approval, arrangements should also be made for regular monitoring of approved installations,” said the Minister.
At present, one has to take the approval of the RAJUK before constructing any building in the capital.
Tazul Islam said navigation in and around Dhaka city is being hampered due to several bridges. It has been decided to demolish these bridges and build new bridges to facilitate navigation.
Mentioning that one of the main reasons for waterlogging in Dhaka was the construction of infrastructure by occupying canals and reservoirs, the Minister said, the canals are being renovated, reoccupied, and illegal structures being evicted as the canals were handed over from WASA to the two City Corporations.
Due to this, there will be no waterlogging in Dhaka city in the coming monsoon, he said.
