Daylong hartal passes off peacefully

 The dawn to dusk hartal called by the BNP led 20-party alliance passed off peacefully amid few stray incidents yesterday .
During the hartal hours , five BNP activists were rounded up from Chowkbazar area in city , police sources said. These political activists detained from Chatteswari area und chowkbazar thana area in the morning.
A large procession led by city BNP president Amir Khasru Mahmud chowdhury brought out from Mehdibag area in favour of the hartal which paraded upto city BNP office at Nasimon bhaban . Police rounded up five activists from the hartal procession, sources said but denied the fact of arrest.
 Police sources said none was arrested from hartal procession of Amir Khasru but five activists of BNP were arrested from other places under the thana jurisdiction and they were brought in Chowkbazar thana for quizzing. BNP led alliance called day long hartal following resistance against the rally of Khaleda zia at Gazipur recently and demanding the detained leaders and activists of the party. No major untoward incidents were occurred during the hartal period. All sorts of transports excepts long route buses and transport trucks went off road during the day.
Tempos, auto rickshaws, rickshaws, commuter services runned as usual with limited numbers. Port activities operated at fullswing inside the port and outer berth but no consignment were delivered from the port shed. Maximum schools and the educational institutions remained closed yesterday. Railway service and air flight operations were as usual without any hamper, sources said.
During the hartal period a number anti-hartal processions were brought out in different parts of the city by the ruling party and their alliances.
