UNB, Dhaka :A Danish company, AP Moller Terminals, is ready to contribute towards building infrastructure in Bangladesh, especially in the Chittagong New Mooring Terminal and Paira Port Project in Patuakhali, on public-private-artnership. Visiting Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jansen said this when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban on Thursday evening.”The Danish firm has offered a public-private-partnership on the New Mooring Terminal and a government-to-government model on the Paira Port,” PM’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said quoting the anish minister as telling the PM. Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters after the meeting.Jansen said another Danish company, Vestas, has been working on signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh’s Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources for a 100-MW power plant project.He hoped that this project would materialise a chance to utilise the long coastline to produce clean energy. “It’ll be a win-win situation,” Jansen said added. Stating Denmark and its people are great friends of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled with gratitude the valuable moral and diplomatic support that the people of Denmark had extended during Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971. She mentioned that there is a huge scope of mutual cooperation between the two countries in the areas like agriculture, shipping, tourism, construction, ICT and renewable energy.She congratulated the Danish minister on the successful launching of the Denmark-Bangladesh Strategic Sector Cooperation. Hasina appreciated the Danish initiative in organising the high-level “Conference on RMG: Bangladesh Framing the Future”.Reiterating the commitment of Bangladesh to promote factory safety and workers’ rights, especially in the RMG sector, she mentioned that the Danish view of the strategic sector cooperation is in line with the government of Bangladesh’s on occupational safety and health, especially in the RMG sector. The Prime Minister also highlighted some measures in this regard, including adoption of the new labour law, drafting of the implementation rules under the labour law, approval of the EPZ act by the Cabinet, adoption of National Occupational Safety and Health Policy, registration of trade unions, safety inspections of factories by three inspecting platforms (Accord, Alliance and BUET).
