Dale Steyn, the South Africa pacer, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, on Tuesday.
Steyn, who had retired from Test cricket in 2019 with an eye on limited-overs formats, last played an international in February 2020 – a T20I against Australia – but has had constant run-ins with injuries over the last few years, especially after a career-threatening shoulder injury during South Africa’s tour of Australia in November 2016.
He held the number one position in ICC test rankings for 2,343 days. Steyn picked up 439 wickets in 93 Tests at an average of 22.9 and he is considered to be one of the greatest bowlers in the modern day.
Alongside 439 Test wickets, Steyn also has 196 ODI’s and 64 T20I wickets, while playing as a genuine lower-order batsman, Steyn has a healthy 1,637 career International runs.
Steyn took to social media to announce his retirement, saying: “Today, I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bittersweet but grateful.”
