Daily virus cases hit new record

Bangladesh recorded the sharpest rise yet in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Wednesday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) registered 4,008 cases during the period to take the confirmed cases in the country to 98,489.
This is the biggest jump in coronavirus cases in the country since the first three cases were reported on March 8. Previous highest 3,862 cases were registered in the country on June 16.
The uptick in the number of new infections follows an increase in tests with highest 17,527 carried out in the last 24 hours against Tuesday’s 17,214.
Besides, the death toll from coronavirus has reached 1,305 with the deaths of 43 more Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 1,925 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 38,189.
Prof Nasima said highest 17,527 samples were tested in 59 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 551,244 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 22.87 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 38.77 percent while the mortality rate is 1.33 percent.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh recorded highest 53 deaths from coronavirus and 3,862 cases.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 8,257,885 around the world as of Wednesday morning.
Besides, the global death toll from Covid-19 has stood at 445,986, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 3,505,150 patients, 3,450,556 are in mild condition while 54,594 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 4,306,749 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,208,400 and 119,132 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd place with 928,834 cases and 45,456 deaths respectively.
