Daily Covid cases drop 218 die, 9,369 new infection

Bangladesh’s daily new Covid-19 cases dropped on Saturday as the country recorded as 9,369 cases, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.
The country registered 13,862 new coronavirus cases after testing 45,044 samples.
Besides, Bangladesh reported another 218 deaths from Covid-19 in last 24 hours to 8am Saturday, taking the death toll to 20,685. On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 12,49,884 as 9,369 more tested positive for the virus during the same time, according to a DGHS a press release signed by its Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana.
The highest 67 deaths were reported in Dhaka division while 55 died in Chattogram division in the preceding 24 hours. Among the dead, 134 were male and 84 were female.
DGHS said 30.24 percent of the 30,980 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.
The recovery count rose to 10,78,212 after another 14,017 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 86.29 percent recovered, while 1.66 percent died.
On Thursday (July 29), 212 Covid-19 deaths and 13,862 cases were reported. Vaccination
Till Friday morning, nearly 4.298 million received the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine while a little over 1.522 million people received the first dose of the vaccine and are awaiting the second dose.
Additionally, 201,242 people received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine during the same period, taking the total to 2,035,943 till now, while 30,708 people received the second dose till Friday.
Meanwhile, a total of 50,235 people received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. On the other hand, 402 people received a second dose of the vaccine on Friday, taking the total to 690.
Also, 69,686 people received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine taking the total number to 615,139.
Currently, 83,694 people are in isolation and 137,202 are quarantined.
The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 and first deaths from the virus on March 18.
