A notorious gang leader of inter-district robbers gang Ripul , 40, was gunned downed in a gunfight with police at Noapara haor area of Gaglajur Union under Mohanganj Upazila in Netrakona on Sunday night.
Police sources said, a police team of the Mohanganj police station arrested the dacoits gang leader Ripul last night.
Later, on the basis of his confessional statement, the police team cordoned off the Noapara haor area to recover fire arms from there, but the accomplices of Ripul smelling the arrival of police forces started gun firing targeting the police personnel. Then the police forces had to open fire from their automatic fire arms in self-defense resulting the death of the Ripul and injury of three police personnel including two assistant police sub-inspectors in the cross firing there. OC of the Mohanganj Police Station Ansari Zinnat Ali informed that Ripul was wanted with Mohanganj police staions for long time in connection with number of 14 criminal cases including robbery , theft and terrorism cases and he was also wanted with Netrakona sader, Khaliajury police stations under Netrakona district and Dorompasha and Jamalganj police stations under Sunamganj district in connection with five criminal cases including bank and launch dacoity cases.
After the incident, police recovered the body of Ripul and sent it to the Netrakona Sader Hospital Morgue for post mortem, the OC added.
