The deep depression over the southwest bay and adjoining area intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Nivar’ over the same area.
It was centring at 6am on Tuesday about 1,665 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 1,610 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,555 kms southwest of Moncta port and 1,550 kms southwest of Payra port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to watch carefully for further necessary instruction.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north bay have been advised to proceed with caution.
