The teachers of Chittagong University have rejected the proposed pay scale for them, terming it disgraceful and discriminatory as their salary grade were downgraded by two steps.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association on behalf of the teachers put an eight- point demands including autonomous pay scale for the teachers according to the education policy, an equal salary of the eight-year-experienced professors and the senior secretariats of the government and selection graded professors’ salary as equal as the designated secretariats.
The demand came at a press conference held at the teachers’ club at around 1.00 pm yesterday where SM Khasrul Alam Quddusi, general secretary of the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) read out the written statement.
Quddusi said, Dr Farash Uddin Pay Commission and secretariat committee did injustice for the deprived persons after degrading the time scale and selection grade and alleged that the commission is trying to stand the teachers against the government by prioriting their own interest.
“In the present pay scale, the professors who are selection graded are consuming the salary as equal as the secretariats’ but under the proposed pay scale the professors downgraded into two steps and event the selection grade was proposed to cut off” he said while reading out the statements.
In the press conference, he alleged that the Pay and Appoint Commission proposed 16-grade but the body of the secretariats, rejecting it proposed 20-grade as before adding further two new grade- senior secretariats and designated secretariats, which spoil the acceptance of the proposed pay scale.
In comparison with the neighboring countries, he said the salary of the professors in India is 1 lakh and 35 thousand rupees where the secretariats of the ministry get only 90 thousand rupees.
