Cultural activities for preventing corruption emphasized

Enhanced nurturing of cultural activities, involving the young generations, against corruption can create public awareness to launch effective movement against the social disease to free the nation from the severe curse.
The opinion came at prize distribution ceremony of anti-corruption cultural competitions arranged by District Corruption Prevention Committee (CPC) at Town Hall hereon Wednesday to conclude observance of the Corruption Prevention Week-2016.
The District CPC with assistance of the District Combined Office of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Justice Reform & Corruption Prevention (JRCP) Project of RDRS Bangladesh extended assistance in observing the week.
Artists of the Integrity Unit Cultural Groups and students of Rangpur Government Girls’ School, Collectorate School & College, Lions School & College, Zaheda Khatun Girls’ School & College, Zila School, Wins School & College, Begum Rokeya Girls High School and Cantonment Public School & College participated in the cultural programme.
The student-artists rendered the chorus songs, dance, most popular
folksongs, ‘Polligeeti’, ‘Bhaoyaiya’, ‘Lalon Geeti’, modern songs, funny stores, staged dramas, recited poems and other colourful programmes in the cultural function.
Thousands of men and women, students, youths, guardians, socio-cultural, professional and political activists, civil society members, public representatives and elite attended the functions moderated by Integrity Unit leaders Mohtasim Manish and Afia Zahin Orpa.
Rangpur Cantonment Public School & College, Rangpur Government Girls’ School and Begum Rokeya Girls High School secured the first, second and third position respectively in the cultural competitions.
With President of District CPC Professor Mozammel Haque in the chair, Deputy Director of the Combined District Office of ACC Kamrul Ahsan attended the function as the chief guest.
Vice-president of District CPC Dr Nasima Akhter, its General Secretary valiant freedom fighter Akbar Hossain, Members Advocate Zakia Sultana Choitee, Khademul Islam Basunia and Mamun Islam, teachers of the participating schools, addressed among others.
The speakers laid importance on launching a social movement with a changed mindset through healthier cultural activities as well as adopting all other possible means to create mass public awareness in building a corruption-free Bangladesh.
Citing contribution of cultural activities in mobilising the common people for the War of Liberation in 1971 and all other national movements in the pasts, they underscored the need for enhanced nurturing of the cultural activities to root out corruption.
