The election of Chittagong University Journalist Association for forming the executive body for 2016-17 session was held on Thursday where a total of 10 candidates contested against seven posts. Abu Bakar Siddique Rahat, CU Correspondent of The daily Jugantor was elected president, defeating Shakirul Hoque Toru.
Ashabur Rahman Shoiab has been elected General Secretary and Abdul Kaium as Vice-President.
A total of 27 voters casted their votes, said chief election commissioner Helal Uddin Ahmed, adding the voting began around 12.00 pm and continued till 3,00 pm. Chief election commissioner announced the result around 3.00 pm, where CU Proctor Ali Azgor Chowdhury, 4 assistant proctors, ex-president-secretary was present here.
The other executive members were elected uncontested-the daily Jaijaidin CU Correspondent Hasan Tareque as Joint Secretary, The New Nation Correspondent Md Juel as Press and Publication Secretary, Bangla Mail’s CU Correspondent Jamir Uddin as finance secretary and Bonik Barta’s CU Correspondent Fahim Hasan as executive member.
