Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) commemorated United Nations Day 2017 in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in the capital on Saturday. The program started with a recorded message of UN Secretary General António Guterres while VC (Designate) Prof William H Derrenger delivered welcome speech. Muhammad Zamir, former Ambassador and Chief Information Commissioner ornamented the program as the Chief Guest while National information officer of UN Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka M Moniruzzaman shared the success stories with students followed by a short documentary on humanitarian aspect.
The program was chaired by Prof MA Arafat, Chief Advisor, Board of Trustees, CUB Professor of Management, while Iqbal Faruk, Manager, Public Relations Division conducted the event.
Dr Atiur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and Virtual Dean, School of Business, Canadian University of Bangladesh and former Governor Bangladesh Bank, Brig Gen Md. Asaduzzaman Subhani (Retd.), Registrar, Canadian University of Bangladesh spoke in the discussion session as special guests. In the discussion, the speakers discussed about the formation and association of Bangladesh with UN, UN 17 Sustainable Millennium Development Goal and share the success stories of United Nations. They also highly appreciated the success of Bangladesh Government in eradicating poverty and promoting world peace.
The chair of the program Prof MA Arafat in his closing remarks thanked Bangladesh Government for its commitment to assisting Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and extending its full support in handling the issue.
Among others, SM Arifuzzaman, Head, School of Business, Hanif Mahtab, Associate Professor of Business School and Proctor and Head of Career Service Wing, Md. Latiful Khabir, Associate Professor of Business School and Head of Student Service Wing and Students’ Directorate, Dr Abdullah-Al-Monzur Hussain, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, School of Law and Dr Nurul Islam Babul, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Film and TV were also present in the program.
