UNB, Chittagong :
Chittagong University authorities on Sunday suspended five students, said to be the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), for six months for their involvement in clashes following a Facebook post.
The BCL men are Mahmudul Hasan Rupok of English Department, Ifratul Alam Titu of History Department, Nasir Uddin Mishu of Institute of Education and Research, Mohammad Khabir alias Sadaf Khan of Law Department and Piyas Sarker of Statistic Department.
Proctor of the university Md Ali Asgar Chowdhury said the decision was taken
at a meeting of the CU Disciplinary Committee. Ifratul, said to be a follower of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, allegedly posted a comment on Facebook degrading ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, president of the city Awami League, on February 16.
Later, Mohiuddin’s followers locked into a clash with Ifratul and his supporters on February 17.
As a sequel to the incident, a group of Mohiuddin’s followers, numbering 5-6, reportedly stabbed Nasir’s supporter Mofazzal Haider Hossain alias Mofa on February 18.
