The tussle between the stalwarts of Chittagong City Awami League has swept all the port-city already and now sweeping the tussle-wave to Chittagong University as the two leaders-Chittagong City Unit Awami League president and former city mayor ABM Mahiuddin Chowdhry and the general secretary of the body and the incumbent CCC mayor AJM Nasir Uddin wanted showcasing superiority amidst worst rivalry.
After ‘directives’ from the high command of Chittagong City Awami League, the two factions of Chhatra League of both Chittagong city and Chittagong University unit went on showcasing strength among themselves.
Following the recent tension, the city unit Chhatra League, sponsored by Mahiddun Chowdhury, on Wednesday went to resist the swimming pool construction in the outer stadium of MA Aziz Stadium by forming human chain and demonstration and locked into a fierce clash with police while a total of 25 persons including 10 police personnel got injured.
Following the clash between the police and Mahiuddin Chowdhury’s wishing Chhatra League, the tension erupted in the city round and also rocks the wave to Chittagong University.
Sources said, the two factions of Chhatra League-one headed by BCL president Alamgir Tipu, wished from AJM Nasir and one headed by BCL General Secretary HM Fazle Rabbi Sujon, having wish from ABM Mahiuddin might involve in fierce-clash as tension is prevailing among the activists and leaders.
Visiting the campus, the leaders and activists of the two groups were seen gathered several places with stick and irony rods and additional police was deployed in front of Shahjalal Hall, Shah Amanat Hall and Zero points.
Police personnel were seen patrolling the campus.
The residential students feared of bloody-clash between the two groups as the tension prevailing both in city and university. Gias Uddin, a Masters Student and residential student of AF Rahman Hall said, we are feared of any clash as tension is prevailing in the campus. Some BCL leaders admitted the incident but could not agree to quote. However, the both the president and secretary of BCL was not found over phone.
Earlier, the two groups gathered at Shahjalal Hall and Shah Amanat Hall at 7.00 pm on Wednesday and after being informed the proctoral body and three platoon of police cordon the two halls brought the situation under control.
Assistant Proctor Helal Uddin told The New Nation that additional number of police has been deployed to avert any untoward situation, adding the situation now under control.
