Chittagong University (CU) has placed its annual budget amounting to Tk 346.30 crore for the 2020-21 fiscal year with only 1.24 percent allocation for research work.
CU Acting Registrar SM Monirul Hasan announced the budget at the 32nd senate meeting presided over by the Professor Dr Shireen Akhter, Vice Chancellor of the university.
Of the budget, the highest expenditure of Tk 222.20crore will be spent for salary and other allowances of the teachers and employees, Tk 4.20 crore for research work which is only 1.24 percent of the total budget and Tk 3.50 crore for transport., CU Acting Registrar SM Monirul Hasan said.
The budget of Tk 346.30 crore was approved against the demand of Tk 541.13 crore of the university. Out of which University Grant Commission (UGC) will give Tk 329.80 crore and Tk 16 crore 50 lakh will be obtained from the own income of the university. The remaining five crore 55 lakh has been mentioned as deficit. At the same time, the Senate approved the revised budget of Tk 335.65 crore for the last 2019-20 fiscal year.
Senate Members, Syndicate Members, Registrar (Acting), Proctor (Acting), and invited guests were present on the budget session held at AR Mallick Bhaban on the campus.
