CU places annual budget with low allocation in research, education

Chittagong University senate yesterday placed its annual budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year with a low allocation in research and education.
Acting register Prof Dr Kamrul Huda placed the budget at the 27th annual senate meeting at the conference room of CU VC for the final approval with the vie-chancellor Prof Dr Iftekar Uddin Chowdhury.
The total budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year is estimated as 175 core 60 lakh taka which was 173 core two lakh in the 14-15 fiscal year.
Ignoring the most important research sector, Tk only 10 lakh has been allocated in research like the previous year.
University Grant Commission (UGC) approved tk 159 core 40 lakh against the expectation from the university tk over 200 core. Reducing the university internal income, the administration is expecting to earn tk 16 core 20 lakh which was 16 core 92 lakh in the 14-15 fiscal year.
There is no deficit in the budget.
Tk 115 core 60 lakh has been allocated in salary and gratuity of the teachers, officials and employees of the varsity while Tk. 28 core has been allocated in the pension of them also.
Tk 2 core 17 lakh has been allocated in repairing, preservation and rehabilitation and tk 12 core 46 lakh in the service and transport sector.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekar Uddin Chowdhury placed the university current situation including teachers, students, research while addressing in his inaugural speech.
