CU former VC ordered not to use ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ title

Former Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury has been ordered by the university authorities not to use the title ‘Bangabandhu Chair’.
The order of notice was issued that signed by KM Noor Ahmed, Acting Registrar of the university at around 9 pm on Monday night.
The notice said, the report regarding the approval process adopted by the former Vice-Chancellor of the Chittagong University has yet to approve by the Academic Council and the Syndicate decision to approve the appointment of the post has not been confirmed.
The order was specifically requested not to use the post of the ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ unless it is approved by the Academic Council on the matter.
 According to university sources, it was approved to launch ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ at the University of Chittagong to study the glorious life and glory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and preserve his memory on 27 August 2017. The former VC prof Dr. Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury was nominated himself for the Bangabandhu chair. On 7 March last year, Prof. Dr. Iftekhar Uddin has taken charge as the researcher of the post.
According to the rules, the person who is appointed for ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ should have 20 years of research on Bangabandhu. Besides, he must have at least 8 articles on Bangabandhu on recognised international journal.
Senior teachers of the university alleged that the former VC do not have such research. He was nominated himself as the ‘Bangabandhu Chair’, breaking the rules required for the appointment of the post.
Contracted, Former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, Mujib Year is very sacred for us. While all of us are busy to make Mujib Year successful, the anti-Bangabandhu forces are doing so to humiliate Bangabandhu.
