Talks with VC: CU BCL men withdraw strike

A group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Chittagong University unit, who were agitating for their 4-point demand on Monday withdrew the indefinite strike with the assurance of the university’s Vice-Chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University Professor Dr. Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury held a meeting with the agitating BCL men and assured them to meet their demand soon. Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said; “a fruitful meeting was held and I assured them to resolve the current problems”. Former Assistant Secretary of BCL, CU unit Hafizul Islam told the reporters that they depended on the VC’s assurance and called off their strike. Meanwhile, no class and no examination were held in Chittagong University during the strike on Monday. No varsity bound shuttle train and teachers’ bus left the campus and came from city for security reason.
A section of BCL leaders and activists took position in front of Shah Amanat Hall at around 11 am and obstructed vehicles movement.
They also chanted slogans in favour of their four-point demands. The demands are: Release of six BCL activists arrested in domestic arms case, the withdrawal of all political cases since 2015, the withdrawal of Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari Thana Belal Uddin Zahangir and immediate resignation of CU proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury.
