After four years, Chittagong zoo is finally about to bring two Bengal tigers from abroad.
The two 10-month-old tigers — a male and female, started journey from South Africa Wednesday night and are supposed to reach the port city yesterday at 8:00am, said Chowodhury Md Mongur Morshed, deputy curator of the zoo.
“We tried to collect tigers domestically from other zoos but failed.
As a result, we had to buy the pair at Tk 33 lakh,” he said. Purnima, the last tiger at the zoo died in 2012. Her companion Chandra died in 2006. Both were brought from Dhaka zoo in 2003.
