Ctg to get world-class cancer hospital

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a world-class cancer hospital and research institute in Chattogram.
Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, the second largest healthcare providing centre after the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), is establishing the full-fledged ‘Cancer Hospital and Research Institute’ for the patients of this region beside the Ma-O-Shishu Hospital on World Cancer Day.
The land minister laid the foundation stone and addressed the inaugural function as the chief guest with editor of Daily Azadi and chairman of Cancer Hospital and Research Institute implementation committee MA Malek in the chair.
The function was addressed, among others, by former MP Sabiha Musa, City AL Awami League vice-president Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, lifelong donor members of Chattogram Ma-O-Shishu Hospital, executive members, members of cancer hospital implementation committee and local Awami League leaders.
Speaking at the function, Jabed announced to donate Taka five crore as grant from his own fund for the construction of Cancer Hospital and Research Institute.
The minister also assured to provide more financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s fund for smooth construction works of the hospital.
The government has allocated 10 kathas of land for the hospital while works for architectural and structural designs have already been completed. There will be 50 to 100 beds, two bunkers and two radiotherapy machines at the proposed cancer hospital.
The estimated budget for the hospital has been fixed at Taka 120 crore and necessary fund worth around Taka 5 crore to construct the building was received from different organisations and individuals.
